Poacher To Run Huntingdon Grand National

Last updated : 18 September 2008 By Gary Hutchinson

Poacher is running the mascot grand national on October 5th, and has given us this statement about the day:

"Mrs Poacher and I are running the Mascot Grand National 2008 in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. We'd like you, our family, friends and Lincoln City fans to help raise a ridiculous amount of money to help the wonderful Marie Curie people continue their excellent work.

Earlier this year the face behind Poacher sadly lost a family member to cancer. The work of the Marie Curie nurses however made those final days as comfortable as possible, and their care throughout was fantastic. Now both myself and Mrs Poacher would like to give something back.

The Mascot Grand National is run every year at Huntingdon racecourse, and 2008 will be the tenth year. Poachers best finish was 11th, but last year he'd slipped down to second from last. Mrs Poacher managed a commendable 40 something last year and will be working hard to improve on that again.

Our aim this year is to finish 'respectfully' and simply be able to give some much needed money to a worthy cause. We won't be promising a top ten finish, but rest assured we'll be doing everything we can to represent LCFC and Marie Curie.

You can donate easily through justgiving, by clicking on the link here www.justgiving.com/poachertheimp I've set a target of £500, but the more we raise the happier I'll be!!!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now, show your support for Lincolnshires top two mascots, and more importantly show your support for the amazing people at Marie Curie Cancer Care."

Poacher has history in the Mascot National, some good and some bad. His best finish was 12th in the 2005 race, but last year he managed to come second to last beaten only by Yorkie The Lion in last place.

So please log on to www.justgiving.com/poachertheimp and donate all you can to this excellent charity. We'll be keeping you updated with Poachers training regime over the coming days.
