Bradford 1 Burton 1 A View from The Trapdoor

Last nights game in hand at the foot of the Football league saw Bradford and Burton share the spoils although this does little to ease the fears of anyone at the foot of Npower League 2. Jacko’s Bantams escaped by the skin of their teeth and had to come from behind to claim a point against fellow strugglers Burton Albion in  a 1-1 draw in front of nearly 14,000. Quite fankly they deserve better and that is no reflection on Jacko or Peter Taylor or the ginger one before them.

It was a tense affair as Burton battled all the way in the huge but costly coliseum that sucks up so much of Bradford’s cash. Keeper Legzdins brilliantly kept out Olivers drive before a McGrath’s downward header  converted Phillips pinpoint cross. Bad boy Jake Speight finally paid back some of the faith to set up a lively last 15 minutes.  Dyers long throw was headed on by Hanson and Speight lashed home from 5 yards to raise the roof.

Burton however came closest to winning it with just seven minutes on the clock, when Philips header was brilliantly palmed onto the bar by keeper Pidgeley. Bradford edge nervously up 16th and 7 points above the drop, whilst Burton move up to 21st and 4 points above Barnet. Northampton our now 22nd and just 3 points clear of the Bees. Ominously everyone in League 2 has just 4 games to play, two of which come this weekend.
