Macc Attacked as City snatch vital win

Lincoln City pulled off a classic smash and grab act at fellow strugglers Macclesfield Town as Peter Jackson's side picked up three vital points.

Having been under the cosh for 80 minutes they pounced through French striker Dany N'Guessan who raced clear of the cover to beat the advancing Jonny Brain from 15 yards. The Eiffel Power kept a cool head to put the Imps 1-0 up.

Macclesfield then sealed their own fate when skipper Terry Dunfield played a suicidal pass into the path of Jamie Forrester who gleefully buried the second from the edge of the box. Forrester showed all his class and experience with a good finish to seal the points for The Imps.

Although substitute Gareth Evans breathed life into the home side with a firm glancing header deep in to stoppage time, it was always going to be too little too late.

Macclesfield had played some sweet passing football but were frustrated by their failings in front of goal.

In the 25th minute on-loan striker Michael Symes scooped a drive over the bar.

Then, in the 39th minute, substitute Francis Green sped past the cover defence only to be twice foiled by the brave Alan Marriott.

But the best chance came in the first-half stoppage time when Levi Reids effort unerringly picked out Lee Ridley on the line from only six yards. Ridleys intervention stopped a certain goal for the Silkmen and was every bit as important as the two goals City scored.

Lincoln also had their chances with Forrester shaving the post in the early stages and Ben Wright heading straight to the keeper before the break.

But it was Macclesfield that should have had the game sealed before the Imps' brace, Michael Symes firing a point-blank header straight at the athletic Marriott in the 64th minute.

Maccelsfield manager Ian Brightwell said after the match: "We've got to keep doing the same things, keep working hard and cut out the silly errors and the goals are bound to come. It won't take too long."

Imps boss Peter Jackson admitted his side were poor, but in a relegation dogfight its points that count. The win leaves City 18th with 31pts from 30 games, and 8 points off the relegation spots.
