Delroy Facey - An Apology

Last updated : 26 December 2009 By Peter Muxlow

The Imps secured a priceless three points today with a massive victory over play off hopefuls Chesterfield.

A goal from Cian Hughton set City on their way against the eleven men of Chesterfield and a somewhat suspect official. Delroy Facey added a second before half time.

Chesterfield pulled one back with ten minutes on the clock before Adam Watts was wrongly judged to have hauled down a Chesterfield man in the box. The usually reliable Jack Lester skied his kick to leave the Imps 2-1 winners.

However the story of the day has to be that of Delroy Facey. Here on LCM we have been very critical of the bustling striker who hasn't impressed in his IMps spell.

Today Facey was excellent, holding up the ball and causing problems all match long. He provided the cross for Cians goal, and took his from a Stefan Oakes cross with style and panache.

Performances like his today typified the spirit City will need to escape the relegation battle, and we are happy to offer our apologies to Facey. His goal ultimately secured the win, a win that could prove crucial as a turning point in the season.

So thanks Del for a great performance, and thanks for delivering the win that Santa promised LCM just before Christmas.
