Lincoln City made the most of some atrocious conditions at Victoria Road and dealt Dagenham and Redbridge's play-off hopes a body blow with an impressive win.

The blustery conditions compromised the standard of football in the first half as both sides struggled to stamp their authority on the game.

With the wind wreaking havoc on the aerial ball, Lincoln managed to fashion the first opportunity by keeping the ball on the ground, but forward Dany N'Guessan was denied by the legs of Daggers keeper Tony Roberts.

At the other end, the home side failed to trouble Robert Burch in the Daggers goal, with the defensive pairing of Janos Kovacs and former Leicester City player Frank Sinclair dominant from start to finish.

As the match drifted towards the interval, N'Guessan produced the spark the game desperately needed, weaving his way down the right before picking out the advancing Aaron Brown at the back post, who powered a header past Roberts to give his side the lead.

Dagenham came out with more intent in the second half and with the wind at their backs started to create chances, but Ben Strevens could only direct his shot straight at Burch after good work from Sam Saunders.

Matt Ritchie's long-range effort was saved by Burch as Dagenham piled on the pressure but, with the home side committing bodies forward in search of an equaliser, it left them open to the counter attack.

And so it proved as the impressive N'Guessan was played in on the right of the box and he delivered an inch-perfect ball into the path of Anthony Elding, who couldn't miss from three yards out.

A miserable evening for the Daggers was completed when centre-back Kovacs capped a imperious display with a goal in the dying minutes after sweeping home after Brown's cross was deflected into his path.
