Who Is Tommy Frazer

Last updated : 20 January 2011 By Neil Hobbs

A genuinely Valiant Tommy Frazer, the Ex Port Vale Port Vale and Brighton and Hove Albion Captain is another player on Steve Tilson’s wish list. He certainly matches Paul Brush’s ‘Leaders on the pitch’ requirements as this often tongue in cheek depiction will illustrate.

Micky Adams departure might have seemed like a new start for the fiery centre midfielder, but Jim Gannon does not see him as part of his plans either. After a season struggling to dislodge Anthony Griffith and Gary Roberts, Vale’s ex-captain played only a bit part on the wing.  That and the offer of a loan deal was never going to suit the son of Mad Frankie Frazer, who wears his heart on his sleeve, thus he left by mutual consent this week.

This puts The Imps in with a shout ahead of a crucial game at Jim Gannon’s old stamping ground, Stockport County, on Saturday. At 12 stone and 5 foot 11 he can put himself about a bit and would be raring to go making up for any ring rust. He is someone we would grow to like at Sincil, although his arrival appears to have been planned for the summer after his contract ran out.

Not a particularly dirty midfielder by any means Tommy is a bit like Danny Hone, attracting physical attention from his fellow pros. On 25 August 2009, Sheffield Wednesday's Francis Jeffers was sent off for head-butting him whilst  Aldershot Town captain John Halls is also on his Christmas card list. The two had to be separated in the tunnel before a ball had even been kicked.

A word of warning for Michael Horton at BBC Radio Lincolnshire and Lee Curtis at The Echo. Fraser is the grandson of former Richardson Gang member "Mad" Frankie Fraser.  When talking to a member of the press, who asked if his illustrious grand father ever came to watch him he said

"No, but he reads your reports and he was unhappy you only gave me six out of 10 last week."  The not so mad Tommy was never rated less than 7/10 by the local paper again.
