Who Is Southend Striker Scott 'Screech' Spencer

Last updated : 28 January 2011 By Neil Hobbs

The Imps have signed Southend Striker Scott 'Screech' Spencer on a permanent deal until the end of the season with an option for a further year. The 21-year-old started at his hometown club Oldham Athletic before being snapped up by Moyes for Everton, Screech was then farmed out for loan spells at Macclesfield Town and Rochdale before Tilson nabbed him for Southend.

Six foot Scott is a lot like Ashley Grimes with great pace and a deadly eye for goal. Four goals in 10 League 1 starts for a struggling Southend side last year show he has the knack, but unable to get into the Shrimpers side, he agreed a severance package at Roots Hall this morning and will officially sign for the Imps on Monday.

The Stacey West will grow to love this lad and his flowing locks, which incidentally are the reason for the nickname.  Look out for an explosive debut - Scott made his first appearance as a substitute against Huddersfield Town on 16 January 2010 and promptly scored in the 2–1 defeat

Scott is the first player to confirm that he is signing for the Imps via his twitter page; "Thank you to all the SUFC fans for the support this season, I wish the lads all the best, now let's kik on at LCFC....cum on the IMPS"
