McAuley linked with Premiership move

McAuley challenging Emile Heskey in last months cup clash
McAuley has made eight starts for City and four substitute appearance but if Sunday tabloids are to be believed he is on the hitlist of both Mark Hughes at Blackburn and Steve Bruce at Birmingham.

McAuley joined the Imps in the summer from Irish side Coleraine for £10,000. He was poised to sign for Stockport but the move broke down at last minute and he was quickly snapped up by Imps boss Keith Alexander.

McAuley played a handful of games up front before ousting Simon Weaver and Jamie McCombe from the first team. His partnership with Ben Futcher has coincided with a six match unbeaten run for the Imps. However he may not see the rewards of his labour should the big boys come a-knocking!

Blackburn made headlines last season by signing Division Three starlet Jon Stead with great success. Stead soon found himself a place in the England U-21 set up and paid back Blackburns faith. Blackburn would be ready to dip into the lower leagues again after this success.

Birmingham saw first hand the talent McAuley possesses when they ran out 3-1 winners in a tighter game than the scoreline suggests last month. McAuley did a superb job of keeping England misfit Emile Heskey quiet throughout the game. It appears Steve Bruce, a close friend of Alexanders, may have been suitably impressed with the six foot defender.
