Another ex Lincoln City player has been the subject of media speculation today linking him with a return to Sincil Bank.

Former fans favourite Dean West has been told his future lies away from Burnley by new boss Steve Cotterill and his release coincides with the move of Mark Bailey. West admitted he would like to play for Lincoln again.

“If you get a chance to sign for a club these days you’ve got to take it and Lincoln are a bit of a draw because I used to play there. My wife’s family are from the area and I lived there for six or seven years when I was younger. Lincoln are an ambitious club and have been in the play offs for the last two years. I suppose the next step is automatic promotion.”

West played 143 times for City between 1991 and 1995 scoring a creditable 23 goals during his stay. The fans loved his committed and skilful displays at right back, and his superb penalty taking ability is still talked of today. His move to Bury was a sad day for the club. He made 122 games for the Shakers before securing a switch to Burnley in 1997.

West however is looking for a return to division one football if possible.

“I’ve still got a few years left in me yet as a player and I would like to stay in the first division. I have a lot to consider as this is an important move for me.”

West could be joining Shane Nicholson with whom he played in 1991-92 before his move to Derby. Alexander is said to have now opened talks with the Nottinghamshire based defender.
