Bridges move inches a step closer

News has reached LCM that Norwich City manager Brian Gunn has decided not to offer Michael Bridges a deal at Carrow Road, which leaves the way open for The Imps to seal the deal.

Bridges has been linked with City every season for the last five, but has always been the mythical ‘he’ll never come here’ figure that fans want to see in a City shirt. However LCM understands that a deal is extremely close to being agreed now Norwich are out of the race.

Peter Jackson has been quoted in local media as saying he has been monitoring the striker all summer, and it appears moves for the likes of Rene Howe may have been a smokescreen for the wider plan, a plan that may be coming to fruition.

Now lets get one thing straight here, the signing of Michael Bridges is not the answer to all our problems. However it would be a significant step in the right direction for a player who still has a lot to offer a side like Lincoln. He would be more of a Jack Lester figure than a Geoff Horsfield.

There are of course a couple of stumbling blocks. Firstly Bridges may have an unreported club interested in him. It isn’t expected that he does have, but with agents operating the way they do he may still end up elsewhere. Naturally Notts County have been linked with a late move for Bridges, but then they are being linked with anyone and everyone at the moment.

So finally perhaps the management and club will deliver what every doom and gloom Imps fan has been asking for, a proven striker, a big name, someone who other clubs will want. Perhaps we are less than 24 hours away from being given the news that the summer long pursuit of a partner for Chris Fagan has reached a conclusion. Perhaps in 24 hours time we’ll be hearing Bridges has signed for Bradford like most the strikers we pursue!
