PRE-SEASON CAMPAIGN IMMINENT

Last updated : 08 July 2002 By Jonathan Hall

Alexander is treating City's friendlies during pre-season as simply games for good practice, a chance for the new players to settle in and as an opportunity for experimentation. The Imps boss will give run-outs to all his squad at some stage in the games, and is also likely to try-out various tactical systems, although ‘4-4-2' will no doubt be his preferred formation.

Friday night's game will prove to be a competitive encounter in which City's players – including 5 new faces, plus a few trialists – will be determined to show the new management team of Alexander and Simpson what they can do.

Imps supporters will be eager to catch a glimpse of the fresh young talent which has been brought into the club – defenders, Ben Futcher and Simon Weaver, dynamic midfielder Scott Willis and strike pair Dene Cropper and Simon Yeo.

Former Imps Gary Cochrane and Paul Miller could figure for United, adding a little extra spice to the game.
