Lincoln City chief executive Steve Prescott has defended a small drop in matchday ticket prices after relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier.After criticism from some fans that the reduction was not enough, Prescott said prices are equal with similar clubs.
"We looked at clubs like Grimsby and Mansfield and we're pretty much in line with them," he told BBC Lincolnshire.
"For every extra ?1 off, we would lose ?50,000 over the course of the season from Steve Tilson's playing budget."
Prescott felt that too great a cut would also have undermined season ticket sales.
"I understand the fans' sentiments," he said. "But, if we had dropped matchday prices much further, we would have received justifiable criticism from our season ticket holders.
"We might not be a Football League club but we still have a lot of the overheads which go with being one, and the whole point of selling tickets is generating income which will be passed on to the manager.
"It's a balancing act between getting a price we feel is right for the level we're at and the size of the club, and providing the manager with a budget to put a competitive team out on the pitch."
