Stefan Oakes revival from out of favour laughing stock to enigmatic captain has occurred over just two months, but has been influenced by no less than three managers.

Chris Sutton handed Oakes the captain's armband for the 1-0 victory over Aldershot Town, a role he reprised for the 1-0 win over Macclesfield.

Sutton told local media: "In this league, I don't think there's anyone with Stefan Oakes' talent. I think he's a fantastic player and has got a left foot players in higher divisions would dream of."

Oakes was much maligned for his lacklustre roles under Jacko last season, but after being handed a reprieve by Jacko his performances have been amongst the best coming out of the current squad.

Sutton added: "I want to get the best out of him - I want to win games - and a fit Stefan Oakes would be a fantastic asset to Lincoln City.

Oakes, 31, who began his career at Leicester City had been placed on the transfer list by previous manager Peter Jackson after struggling last season. Jacko received some stinging criticism from fans for the way he repeatedly savaged Oakes for his performances last season.
