Lincoln Ladies are delighted to announce the signing of England international Casey Stoney from Chelsea, as manager Rod Wilson looks to finalise his squad ahead of the launch of the new FA WSL next month.

Stoney, who can play across the back four, brings a wealth of experience to the Lincoln Ladies squad, having been capped by England 82 times and captained Chelsea Ladies.

The 28-year-old's transfer represents the first cross-club signing for a player in the FA WSL and - take this out?

Wilson believes that securing Stoney's services is testament to the progress the club are making in preparing a squad that can challenge in the new competition.

"Casey's track record speaks for itself," explained the Lincoln Ladies Manager. "I think what this signing does is send a message of intent ahead of the FA WSL launch that we aim to be a match for anyone this year.

"A player of Casey's experience and leadership, coupled with her versatility, can only strengthen our squad and I'm sure that she will be a massive asset to the club. It's a really timely boost so close to the launch of the new campaign."

Stoney herself was delighted to have made the switch to the East Midlands, having been impressed by what the club had to offer.

"I had been at Chelsea for three years and it was a massive wrench for me to leave a club that means so much to me and it was a very difficult decision to make. After talking to Rod Wilson and seeing what Lincoln Ladies had to offer, I just knew that this was the right move for me at this stage of my career.

"My ambition is as strong as ever and with the squad that Lincoln have assembled ahead of the FA WSL I really believe that we can challenge this season and I'm just looking forward to getting started now."

Casey will now be available for the opening game of the FA WSL season, when Lincoln host Doncaster Rovers Belles at Ashby Avenue on Thursday 14th April, kick-off 7:45pm, before coming up against her former team-mates at Chelsea a week later.

Casey will also be joining the team as they take over the Lincoln City Square this Saturday (19th March).
