IMPS FAIL IN BID TO LAND STARLETS

Imps manager Alan Buckley wanted to take advantage of City’s special relationship with their Merseyside acquaintances, by recruiting free-scoring Nick Chadwick along with influential central midfielder Keith Southern.

Buckley said, “I made an inquiry for Chadwick, who is a player whose name has cropped up in the past as well as another midfielder who I like the look of…But Everton didn’t fancy letting them go.”

“I understand the pair are out of contract at the end of the season and David wants to have a good look at them before deciding what to do. But I don’t think it would have done them any harm coming here and getting some competitive football.”

Ian Ross, spokesman for Everton FC, confirmed to Planet Imp a couple of days ago that, “I believe Lincoln enquired about Keith Southern, but we’re not letting him go at the moment.”

Both Chadwick and Southern have played an integral part in the Toffee’s reserve side this season. Commanding central midfielder, Southern, has skippered the reserves on more than one occasion and in the Blues’ reserves last outing, he netted both goals in a 2-0 victory against Bradford. However, he has not appeared for the Blues’ first team this season, but is on the verge of first team inclusion.

Chadwick has made 5 appearances for the Toffee’s first team this term, including the FA Cup Quarter Final defeat by Middlesborough earlier this season.

The goals of Chadwick combined with the influence of Southern would considerably add something special to the Imps team.

City Chairman Rob Bradley will try again to land the pair once the season is up. In some respects the instalment of David Moyes in the Everton hot seat hindered chances of the two rising stars being lured to Sincil Bank. This left the Imps with little time to negotiate with Moyes before transfer deadline day.

City have not so much failed, but laid the foundations for a future double recruitment…
