Herd has agreed to stay at Lincoln until the end of the season on loan from Aston Villa.
Herd made his debut during the live 3-1 FA Cup win over Northwich, and has a single City goal to his name from the 3-1 reverse at home to Rochdale.
He appears to fit nicely into the 4-5-1 formation that Sutton has been trialling these last few games, and his signing is yet another coup for the management team.
