Gritton up for league award

Last updated : 06 February 2007 By Richard Brown

Gritton was short-listed alongside Lee Peacock (Swindon Town), Michael Nelson (Hartlepool Utd.) and Steve Phillips (Bristol Rovers) in recognition of his sudden change in fortunes since joining Billy Dearden's Mansfield side.

The striker – prior to making the move – had started just nine games during his time at Sincil Bank, scoring three goals after falling behind in-form strikers, Mark Stallard and Jamie Forrester in pecking order.

With his contract here expiring in the summer, Gritton was shipped out on loan until the end of the season in hope of regular first team football, something which the Stags have been only too happy to award him.

Since leaving for Field Mill three-weeks ago, the 28-year old has hit fine form, firing five goals in just six starts for the Stags, including a hat-trick against his former employers, Torquay.

The winner of the award will be announced at Thursday lunch-time. For news of the results of the awards, be sure to check back to LCM later this week.
