Forrester has had two excellent seasons at Sincil Bank, and it was widely expected the veteran striker would stay and become an important part of the City revolution. However it now appears he'll be joining ex Imps Richard Butcher, Paul Mayo and Spencer Weir Daley at Meadow Lane.
Notts County boss Ian McParland told the club website: "Jamie has agreed to join us. He had the chance to stay at Lincoln but chose to join us and I look forward to seeing his name appear regularly on our score-sheet next season."
McParland also told the club's website: "His track record speaks for itself. It summed Jamie up last season when he scored the goal that gave Lincoln a 1-0 win against us at Meadow Lane. We hardly saw him all night but he scored from the one chance he had and that made all the difference. "
County will be the 12th club of Forrester's career, in which he has hit 161 goals in 527 games.
After starting his professional career in France with Auxerre as a 16-year-old in 1991, he was signed by Howard Wilkinson for then league champions Leeds United in October 1992, becoming part of that season's 1993 FA Youth Cup-winning team.
After loan spells at Southend United and Grimsby Town, he then became a permanent signing at Blundell Park in October 1995 before moving on to Grimsby's neighbours Scunthorpe United in March 1997.
After over two seasons at Glanford Park, he then spent a year with Dutch side Utrecht, during which he had separate loan spells with Walsall and Northampton Town.
After completing his move to the Cobblers, he enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career there, hitting 50 goals in his 136 appearances.
But, after a season at Hull City, followed by two campaigns with Bristol Rovers, he has also proved a hit in over two years at Sincil Bank, after initially arriving on loan, hitting a further 37 goals in 101 games.
