Chadwick opened the scoring on 15 minutes, poking the ball home from close range, to take his season’s tally to 8. The young striker was in the thick of the action, as he had an earlier effort tipped round the post.

67 minutes on the clock and Everton could have gone two up, as the influential Southern hammered the crossbar with a header, after Idan Tal had swung in an inviting centre.

Southern netted the second to see of a lack-lustre Leeds United, who included Lee Bowyer, Jason Wilcox and Seth Johnson in their side. 11 minutes from time, Southern found the net with a firm header following a Ryan Valentine cross from the right. Southern continued his fine form, after netting twice in the last reserve encounter.

Leon Osman and Kevin McLeod also starred in the game. Damien Curran returned to the bench after arriving back from his trial at Cheltenham Town.
