The Imps climbed three places to 19th in the League Two table and opened up a nine-point gap over second-from-bottom Grimsby with a 2-1 home win over Bradford on Saturday.

Sutton said: "I know we have given ourselves a reasonable chance but football has a habit of biting you in the backside. I know, I've played the game long enough and once you think you've cracked it that's when you are at your most vulnerable.

"I just hope now we can gain some momentum and start to move further up the table. We do feel now that when we go into games that we have a chance of winning and that wasn't the case a couple of months ago.

"We still make a lot of mistakes so we have to remain patient and the next six weeks are going to be crucial in how the season shapes up.

"We have a big game coming up at Burton on Wednesday which is the start of a long run of games for us and our squad is going to be severely tested."
