Bulls hit but Imps smelling of roses

Some good news at last with Hereford United hit with a 3 point deduction for fielding an ineligible player against Torquay. The Gulls lost a point too for doing the same thing with both increbibly getting the same fine - £10,000 with £7,500 suspended until the end of the season.

So says the word of the Football league in their infinite wisdom. Fair no a result for the Imps yes. This sees Hereford drop from 19th to 21st while Torquay are still seventh by virtue of goal difference over eighth-placed Gillingham.

20  Northampton  40  -9  43
21  Hereford  40  -17  46
22  Burton Albion  38  -15  41
23  Barnet       40  -19  38

Rob Purdie is the Bulls player at the centre of what Hereford, described as a "genuine administrative oversight in the very hectic hours leading up to the transfer deadline".

Torquay striker Jake Robinson, on loan from Shrewsbury, was also not eligible to play in the February 1 fixture which the Bulls won 3-1 at Plainmoor.

A disappointed Bulls chairman David Keyte told United's official website "I am very disappointed at the outcome, we will definitely be appealing the decision."

Both sides have 28 days to appeal.
